New ads from Heinrich in Senate race, Griego in CD1
May 29th, 2012 | Comments Off
U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich announced that his campaign is airing a new ad airing in the Albuquerque media market today while State Sen. Eric Griego announced a new ad before the holiday weekend.
The two new ads are part of what should be a flurry of ads as the election nears next week.
In Heinrich’s U.S. Senate ad, which features men in suits described as lobbyists playing tug of war against normal New Mexicans, he says he will focus on “important things” like “preserving Social Security and Medicare” and “protecting our veterans and military bases.”
You can watch the ad or read the transcript below.
Heinrich is a heavy favorite to beat State Auditor Hector Balderas in the Democratic Senate primary next Tuesday.
In Griego’s ad, Griego vows to be the type of Democrat who will stand his ground.
“The last thing we need to send to Washington is a Democrat who’s a kinder, gentler version of the Republicans. We need somebody who’s going to stand their ground and that’s what I’ve done my whole life,” Griego said.
While Griego does not mention either of his opponents, Griego is clearly continuing his work at positioning himself as the progressive in the three-way race. The latest polls have shown Griego tied with Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham while former Albuquerque mayor Martin Chavez lags behind.
The transcript from Heinrich’s ad as provided by the Heinrich campaign:
MARTIN HEINRICH: For years, millionaires, CEOs, and lobbyists have called the shots in Washington….short-changing New Mexico’s middle class.
I’ve been working hard to get people back on their feet.
That’s why I want to end the tax breaks for millionaires…
…crack down on Wall Street…and cut wasteful spending.
I’m focused on the important things.
Preserving Social Security and Medicare.
Protecting our veterans and military bases.
And investing in our tech sector.
I’m Martin Heinrich and I approved this message, because I always stand with New Mexico.
And Griego’s ad:
The transcript, as transcribed by NM Telegram:
ERIC GRIEGO: I’m Eric Griego and I approve this message. The spirit of this state is that we’re fighters. We need someone who is willing to fight for our basic values. Protecting our natural resources, creating good jobs, not just for those who can really afford the best education, but for everybody and creating public schools that work for everyone.
The last thing we need to send to Washington is a Democrat who’s a kinder, gentler version of the Republicans. We need somebody who’s going to stand their ground and that’s what I’ve done my whole life.
