Udall, Lujan Grisham talk filibuster, health care on MSNBC

Senator Tom Udall took his efforts to reform the filibuster in the Senate to the MSNBC airwaves on Sunday by going on “Up with Chris,” a weekend morning show hosted by Chris Hayes.

A day before, Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham was on the same program speaking about Congress working to create jobs in a time when unemployment remains high in the country.

You can see both clips below.

“Here’s what we need to do,” Udall said. “We need to take the filibuster and make sure that if you are going to perform a filibuster, you do it out in the open, you do it transparently and you do it in such a way that the American people know what’s going on.”

What Udall is talking about is the so-called “talking filibuster” instead of what Udall calls the “secret, stealth, silent filibusters.”

Lujan Grisham defended Medicare and Medicaid, saying they are “critical” programs.

“We can’t erode that core component of the health care system,” Lujan Grisham said. “Do I want people to be getting their care in emergency rooms? Of course not. Do I want to figure out cost containment measures? Yes.”

Lujan Grisham has said that
