NRA targets Udall, other Senators

While it has had a tough road in beating back some gun control legislation, the NRA is still a powerful, well-funded group.

It is using some of its coffers to oppose Democratic senators up for election in 2014, including Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M. However, it doesn’t appear to be targeting Udall to closely, as it will not be paying for newspaper ads, instead only using online ads to target Udall.

A previous web ad (YouTube link) from the NRA opposed background checks for gun purchases.

The NRA backed Republican Heather Wilson in 2012. Wilson went on to lose to Democrat Martin Heinrich in the 2012 general election.

The Hill reports:

In addition, the NRA will run online ads in other red or swing states where Democratic senators face reelection, including Alaska, Colorado, Montana, New Hampshire and New Mexico.

Udall is considered by most observers to be a safe bet for reelection.

Udall was first elected in 2008 and this will be his first reelection bid.
