Soules says Lopez will run for governor

Linda LopezSen. Bill Soules said on Twitter this weekend that state Sen. Linda Lopez will run for governor in 2014.

The tweet is embedded below.

Some Democrats had spoke of Lopez making another run for Lt. Gov., but if Soules is correct, Lopez would instead seek the top political office in the state.

Lopez serves as the chair of the Senate Rules Committee — and has notably feuded with the Fourth floor when they never voted on the confirmation of Public Education Department secretary-designate Hanna Skandera.

Senators are not up for election until 2016, so Lopez could run governor without giving up her Albuquerque state Senate seat.

Attorney General Gary King has already announced he is running for governor. Other Democrats are considering runs for governor.
