Weekly Word: MMA fighter Andrew Tenneson

Weekly WordThis week, the Weekly Word takes a step back from politics and hard news to talk about the world of sports.

Specifically, the sport of mixed martial arts, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Albuquerque is home of Jackson’s Martial Arts and Fitness Academy, or Jackson’s Gym, arguably the best place in the world for MMA fighters to train.

Joey Peters and myself speak to one of those fighters, Andrew Tenneson. Tenneson is an amateur fighter who hopes to go pro after his next fight on August 10. We speak to Tenneson about his amateur career, the basics of MMA and ask him to address some of the criticism of MMA and his thoughts on it.

He will also explain why saying someone is “a UFC fighter” doesn’t make any sense. You can also follow him on Twitter.
