Former Vice President Dick Cheney will headline a fundraiser in New Mexico for Gov. Susana Martinez.

The fundraiser will be held in Martinez’s home city of Las Cruces on June 14 at the Ramada Palms.

The invitation emailed to Martinez supporters doesn’t show a suggested or required contribution but does not that donors are limited to $10,400 per election cycle, $5,200 for both the primary and general elections. The event will happen after the primary election, though donors can still donate both as long as checks are sent before June 3.

Cheney served as Vice President for two terms under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.

Martinez does not face any competition in the Republican primary. Five Democrats are vying to face Martinez in the general election.

The fundraiser isn’t Cheney’s first in support of Republicans in the state. In 2008, Cheney headlined fundraisers for both Heather Wilson and Steve Pearce. At the time, both were involved in an acrimonious U.S. Senate primary.

Pearce went on to narrowly win that primary and then lose to Tom Udall in the general election.

Cheney also was scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Ed Tinsley, the Republican candidate for 2nd Congressional District in 2008 but backed out because of problems with the bailout bill in Washington D.C. Tinsley lost to Democrat Harry Teague that year.

The appearance by the former Vice President is another example of the increased national presence of Martinez in the Republican Party.

New Jersey governor and likely presidential candidate Chris Christie will be in New Mexico for a Martinez fundraiser later this month. A fundraiser in Maryland next week will feature a host of big name Republicans including Florida Sen. Mario Rubio, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

Martinez got her first real taste of the national stage at the 2012 Republican National Convention where she gave a speech well-regarded among Republicans.

Since then, Republicans have frequently mentioned her in their efforts to woo the growing Hispanic demographic.

Bush political adviser Karl Rove wrote a piece for Time Magazine last year when the magazine named Martinez as one of the 100 Most Influential People.
